Well it was still May 31, 2006 when I started writing this post.  It's still May 31,2006 somewhere in the Country, isn't it?  LOL.  Well today's blog is called the Neat Living Blog.  It's a wonderful resource about keeping your living area neat and free of clutter. This blog is a must read.  Make sure to blogroll it and subscribe to the feed.  I know every small business owner has had a moment of "Now where did I put my…"  The url for this blog is http://www.neatliving.net

The only thing that bothered me about this blog was that I couldn't find the author's name on the blog. Other than that this is a very good blog.

I'm looking for an alternative format for the discussion board.  I'll keep you guys posted about when it's ready for launch.

My colleague introduced me to Num Sum, and I have to say that it is a really cool little application.  It's an online spreadsheet.  I know what you're thinking… Why is this so cool?  Can't I just use Excel?  The reason this is so cool is because you can share it with your colleagues without doing the whole email and attachment dance.  It's a free application.  Also this application isn't system dependent (at least as far as I know).  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that point.  Here's the url to check Num Sum out, http://www.numsum.com

Not as if anyone asked my opinion, but I decided to write about my experiences with some of the online networking tools that are out there. I'm starting with LinkedIn. Now first of all you do have to be aware that when it comes to networking, your results depend on how much effort you are willing to put in. So if you expect to put up a profile and then just sit back and wait for people to want to connect with you, that is just not going to work.

LinkedIn's philosophy is that everyone that is connected to one other actually knows one another. So you have to actually network with people in other areas before you can add them as a connection on LinkedIn. Overall I have found LinkedIn to be a very useful tool for keeping all of my connections in one place. I especially like that they allow you to list three websites on your profile. I'll be talking more about LinkedIn and other online Networking tools in future posts.

This week's LinkedIn Bloggers Blog Boost is Corporate Blogging 101.  It's main objective is to explain blogging to corporate types.  The particular post that I am supposed to be reviewing today is found here:

He brings up a very good point.  This was a very well written post.  I knew exactly what he was trying to get across and what I as a reader was supposed to get from reading his post.  The title of his blog is simple and it's easy to understand what he's going to be writing about in his blog.  Great job!

Since I keep talking about blog descriptions so much, I felt like I should give some tips on writing one.  First off it really doesn't have to be that long.  It should only be about two or three paragraphs.  You should explain the main topics that you write about.  You should also point out what you hope your reader will learn or gain from reading your blog.  This will help the reader understand your motives better.  It will also help to separate your blog from spam blogs or splogs since most of the splogs that I have seen don't take the time to do all of that stuff.  Also if it is a business blog, please leave out stuff about your cat and your significant other when you describe your blog.  Most business readers really don't care about all of that stuff.  That sort of information is more appropriate in a personal blog.  Keep in mind that potential employers or clients could be reading this blog and you want to always present a professional image.  I hope this helps with your blog descriptions.  Good luck and happy bloggging!
